Our pals at Chicago magazine spent weeks pulling together their glossy July issue featuring 25 of the city’s hottest singles. With due respect to all their hard work, we wondered who else might be lurking right outside our own front door at Tribune Tower. So on Friday we spent 45 minutes trolling for singles along the Mag Mile:

Robin Rule, 42, Southeast Side, florist. Favorite first date : Ravinia. Looking for: an honest, open fun-loving person.

Brian Knight, 26, Northwest Side, owner of hair salon promotion company. “Date me and get free haircuts.”

Roger Derstine, 54, Michigan Ave., lawyer. First date idea: live theater. Refused to have his photo taken though he looked great in his relaxed linen suit.

Greg Pryor, 36, South Side, 7th-grade teacher at Academy St. Benedict African. “Looking for a woman I can get along with who has a good sense of humor.”

Maxine Weintraub, 50ish, Lake View, TV commercial actress on strike, Census 2000 enumerator and Museum of Contemporary Art employee. Suggested first date: A Grant Park picnic of something he made himself.

Tania RuizdeLuzuriaga, 19, Evanston, Northwestern student. Seeking someone no older than 25 who likes to sail.

Vera Nosik, 49, Rogers Park, Sheraton room service attendant, originally from Russia. First date: Talking over coffee at a sidewalk cafe.

Bonnie Boden, 22, temp originally from Lansing, Mich., First date: sightseeing along the lakefront followed by drinks.

Brad Bramble, 27, Hammond, Ind., service rep for Humana Health Care,. Likes that standard dinner and a movie combo.

Frank O’Reilly, 23, County Monaghan, Ireland, construction worker. First date: “Dinner, so I can get to know her and tell her about Ireland.”

Flin Young, 27, North Side, bellman. “I’m not looking to get married–most of my brothers and sisters are all married, so I’m not in a rush.” Has girlfriend of four years (“but technically, I’m single”).

Tao Zhao, 27, Louisana State University graduate student in computer science. In Chicago visiting a sister. “It’s hard to say what I’m looking for in a girl. I want to take good care of a girl.”
