Police on Sunday charged a Chicago man and two women with the robbery and slaying of a 72-year-old Oak Brook man who had met one of the women through a dating service.

Anthony Leyva, of Palisades Drive, was pronounced dead of multiple stab wounds at 8:50 p.m. Saturday at Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Chicago police charged John Searles, 20; Evelyn Rivera, 19; and Vanessa Padin, 17, all of the 3700 block of West 60th Place, with attempted robbery and first-degree murder. They are scheduled to appear at a hearing Monday at the Criminal Courts Building at 26th Street and California Avenue.

Police spokesman Matthew Jackson said Leyva was driving northbound in the 5900 block of South Pulaski Road at about 8 p.m. Saturday. Rivera was in the passenger seat, and Searles, her boyfriend, was behind Leyva.

Police alleged Searles put a knife to Leyva’s throat and demanded money. Then he stabbed Leyva and slit his throat. The car crashed into a nearby gas station. Police arrived moments later and arrested the suspects, who were still at the scene.
