The City Council has approved plans to bring eight upscale town homes to an area just south of downtown Wheaton.
The homes, which will be built on vacant land at the southwest corner of West and Childs Streets, will be an extension of, but not connected to, e Brantley Place development with 18 town homes to the west.
As part of the approval, council members will require developer Howard Koop to purchase a city-owned alley that is used for vehicle access to a house at 418 S. West St. That homeowner will in the future use the private street in Koop’s new development to access his home.
The council denied a separate request by Koop to build two more town homes just to the west of Brantley Place on a site that has a single-family home. Council members rejected that proposal because it would have meant another single-family house completely surrounded by town homes.
