Even if George W. Bush were not the governor of Texas or a candidate for president of the United States, the death penalty should be in the national spotlight. Despite majority support, it is morally and spiritually wrong. It is an act of vengeance that brings no real peace to the vengeful.
Life in prison without the possibility of parole should be the maximum punishment error-prone humankind should be allowed to mete out to fellow brothers and sisters who commit capital crimes.
All the presidential candidates in the recent primaries, both Democrat and Republican, favored the death penalty. With newly released evidence showing serious flaws in implementation of the death penalty, everyone in our country needs to rethink what we believe about capital punishment.
