Mayor David Stover’s appointment of Ron Moses as interim 3rd Ward alderman has been approved by the City Council.

Moses, a former city corporation counsel, will replace Ken Hinterlong, who held the post for 15 of the last 23 years but resigned because he moved from the southeast side to the far west side, where he will live in the 5th Ward.

Moses, 57, will serve until next April, when a special election will be held to choose an alderman to serve the two remaining years on Hinterlong’s term. Moses, now assistant chief counsel at the Midwest office of the Federal Highway Administration, said he will not run for the post.

Hinterlong, 65, owner of Hinterlong Auto Service Inc., won praise from aldermen for his dedication to the 3rd Ward and his family’s record of public service. His wife, Mary, teaches 2nd grade at Clifford I. Johnson Elementary School, and two of his sons are city police officers.
