In 1954, dancer Delia Zapata Olivella founded Danzas Folcloricas Colombianas in an effort to preserve the musical and dance traditions of her native Colombia. Nearly 50 years later, the cumbia, maplale and currulao endure, thanks in part to Olivella’s dedication. Her 29-member troupe performs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Navy Pier’s Skyline Stage, 600 E. Grand Ave. Tickets: $25-$28 ($15 for children 12 and under). Call 312-409-1757 or visit www.latinoculturalcenter.com.
