Police in St. Charles are investigating whether a 51-year-old Aurora man might have had a medical emergency before the delivery van he was driving hit a compact car and a tree Friday on Riverside Avenue.
Joseph P. McLaughlin of the 1000 block of Howell Place was unconscious when police arrived about 11:10 a.m. and was pronounced dead a short time later at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva.
McLaughlin’s van was moving southbound in the 1400 block of Riverside when it swerved into oncoming traffic, hit a Dodge Neon and came to rest after hitting a tree. The driver of the Neon was not injured, police said.
