J. Morley Frank, 92, a former general manager of the Canadian National-Grand Trunk Railroad and World War II veteran, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, in Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. Mr. Frank worked in the Chicago offices of Canadian National, which carries freight across the continent, ever since he lied about his age at 15 to become a messenger there. With only a grade-school education and his ambition, he climbed the corporate ladder over the next 50 years to eventually head the pricing and marketing systems throughout the country. “He loved his work so much, and he would stop at nothing until he was one of the company’s leaders,” said Irene, his wife of 60 years. “It was that ambition that I loved so much about him.” They met in a Chicago bowling alley in the late 1930s and fell in love. They married and traveled across the Midwest while he served as a major in the Army Air Forces in World War II, moving often from base to base. At war’s end, they settled in Chicago to raise a family. “I was drawn to his kindness,” his wife said. “Also he was a perfectionist and was truthful, a very straight guy. We had many happy years together.” Other survivors include a son, Morley; a daughter, Dorothy; and three grandchildren. A mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter Catholic Church, 2118 Main St., Spring Grove.
