The Libertyville Village Board has delayed consideration of several zoning variances needed to allow the construction of a proposed sports and entertainment complex near U.S. Highway 45 and Peterson Road.
At a Village Board meeting this week, Mayor Duane Laska asked the board to delay consideration of the variances until the village has considered the financial aspects of the proposal.
Equity One Development Corp., based in Buffalo Grove, wants to develop the sports complex as a joint venture with the village. Under the proposal, the village would have to purchase a portion of the land and develop some of the property.
Equity One is proposing that the 48-acre site include an 18-hole miniature golf course, a nine-hole micro-miniature golf course, a golf learning center, a driving range and lighted softball and soccer practice fields.
A 159,000-square-foot indoor sports complex would also be built on the site to house basketball, volleyball and soccer facilities along with a sporting goods store, preschool, fitness area, restaurant and offices.
The Village Board is expected to discuss the financial aspects of the proposal at a meeting Tuesday night.
