A school board has agreed to remove restrictions on the wildly popular Harry Potter series of books.
The Durham Region School Board, near Toronto, had required parents to sign a consent form before allowing the best-selling books to be read in classrooms after complaints from some parents and a board trustee that the J. K. Rowling books glorify witchcraft.
The board narrowly decided Monday to remove the curbs after a heated debate involving parents on both sides of the issue.
“We’re not in the business of banning books,” said board Chairman Doug Ross.
