The South Elgin Plan and Zoning Commission has approved the Heritage Pointe condominium and retail development.

The plan calls for the development to replace the Tucker grocery store and several other businesses on the square block bounded by Gilbert, Mill, State and Woodbury Streets.

The development would have three buildings containing 66 condos and 11,000 square feet of retail space. The residences will be sold only to people 55 or older.

Developer Jeff Pelock hopes to draw older South Elgin residents or parents of village residents who want to live in town.

He submitted a revised plan that addressed commission and Board of Trustees concerns about added parking and landscaping.

Zoning commissioners voted 5-0 with one abstention Wednesday to recommend approval of the preliminary and final site plans.

Village Administrator Brent Eichelberger said the Village Board would probably not discuss the matter until its Oct. 23 committee of the whole meeting and not vote on approval until its Nov. 2 board meeting.
