The proposal to ban the use of handheld cell phones while driving misses the point entirely. It’s not the loss of the hand that causes a problem while driving but, rather, the loss of attention. Studies have shown that use of hands-free cellular devices does not significantly improve safety.
The only safe way to use a cell phone in a car is to not be driving the car while talking on the phone.
