Mrs. Steele, a Chicago native, died Monday, Oct. 2, in Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. Mrs. Steele, a eucharistic minister at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Palatine, was active with a northwest suburban chapter of Zonta, a professional organization of female business owners. “Mom always went where there was a party,” said her son Michael. “She liked having a good time. She’d give the shirt off her back for any of her kids. She adored her grandchildren. They were the highlight of her last 10 to 15 years.” Survivors include her husband of 48 years, George; two more sons, Thomas and Mark; a daughter, Janet Grupe; two sisters, Carole Hanrahan and Kathleen “Babs” Smith; three brothers, Walter, Donald and Thomas Miller; and seven grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1152 E.
