Elmer J. Lundgren, 88, of Wood Dale, a recently retired electrical inspector for Wood Dale, died Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Lexington of Bloomingdale. Born in Chicago, Mr. Lundgren owned an electrical contracting company before being hired 40 years ago as an electrical inspector for Wood Dale. He was instrumental in establishing electric building codes for the city. “Over the years, he worked closely with city officials to see that electric building codes were not only created, but carried out,” said his future son-in-law Wally Schweigert. An avid fisherman, Mr. Lundgren enjoyed yearly vacations in Minnesota. He was also a golf and bowling enthusiast, playing up until recently. “He was very active and enjoyed life right up until the end,” Schweigert said. Survivors include two sons, Michael and Donald; six daughters, Georgette “Gi Gi,” Patricia Kluge, Carolyn Lawson, Mary Lynn Yarter, Kathleen Venzon and Delores “Dolly” Vernon; 31 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 524 Rush St., Itasca.
