Eugene McDonald “Skipper” Kinney, 79, of Northbrook, passed away October 13, at his home, beloved husband of 50 years of Barbara Dickason Kinney; devoted father of Catherine Jean, John Douglas (Teresa) and Elizabeth Ann Kinney and the late Robert James Kinney; proud grandfather of Jennifer Devon and Elizabeth Morgan Kinney. WWII Naval Officer aboard the Naval Destroyer USS SPROSTON in the South Pacific. Retired Sr. Vice President & Director of Zenith Radio Corporation, founded by his uncle, Eugene McDonald. Mr. Kinney attended Vermont Academy and received his M.B.A., B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1944, an avid lifetime yachtsman and sailor (27 Chicago “Mac’s”). Mr. Kinney was the Founder of Argosy Yachts, Inc., and Co-Founder of Heart of America, the Chicago Syndicate competing in the America’s Cup Challenge in 1988 and was a Commodore in the Chicago Yacht Club, member of the board of directors of Lakeshore Bank and Evanston Hospital. He was President of the Chicago Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Visitation Thursday, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral blessing, at 1:30 p.m., at Hanekamp Funeral Home, 385 Waukegan Rd. (1/2 Mi. N. of Dundee Rd.), Northbrook. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sea Scout Council, a Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, at 1218 W.
