A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting and interfering with a federal government employee after he grabbed a census taker’s arm, twisted it behind his back and then pushed him down a flight of about 10 stairs.

According to authorities, on June 14 a census taker approached an apartment where Robert E. Walls, 52, was visiting his girlfriend. The census taker announced what he was doing and began speaking through the door to Walls’ girlfriend. They said Walls became angry, opened the door and assaulted the worker.

Under the plea agreement, Walls faces a maximum of 6 months in prison at a hearing scheduled for Jan. 12 in U.S. District Court.
