Rumors of increasing the legal driving age have both sparked interest in concerned parents and caused teens to rebel about this potential change. Because car accidents remain the leading cause of death for teenagers, licenses should be issued at the age of 18.

Are frenetic 16-year-olds really ready for such a responsibility? Sixteen-year-olds are nine times more likely to be involved in an accident than any other age group. They are cited for more mistakes on the road than anyone except for drivers over 82. Also a 16-year-old is 42 percent more likely to crash than a 17-year-old with just one more additional year of practice.

Even though the ages 16 and 18 are fairly close to each other, the amount of driving knowledge gained is astounding and worth the wait.
