As a second-generation Chicago Bears season-ticket holder, I have been disgusted with the team’s performance this year. With the free agents acquired in the off season, my expectations were for a .500 season at the worst. After a 1-7 start, those expectations are as unattainable as a new stadium deal.
When a team makes moves that improve the overall talent level and still takes a giant step backward, the blame must fall to the coaching staff. Dick Jauron’s emotionless style couldn’t inspire a starving dog to chew on a bone. Gary Crowton, the Bears offensive coordinator, is a one-hit wonder whose playbook is as thin as his prized quarterback’s skin. On the other side of the football, Greg Blache’s defense couldn’t stop a poodle with a howitzer. The special teams are atrocious.
And if Bears fans want to use the bathrooms at Soldier Field, they need to bring a pair of waders.
All this, and the organization still had the nerve to raise ticket prices.
Unfortunately the Dick Jauron era is beginning to look a lot like the one Dave Wannstedt left behind, and Chicago deserves better.
