Father Terence Joseph Stanton, O.S.B., died peacefully in the Lord on Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 in the Infirmary of Marmion Abbey, Aurora, IL. He was 83 years old. Father Terence was born Oct. 28, 1917 in Aurora, IL. On Aug. 6, 1938 he professed vows as a Benedictine monk of St. Meinrad Abbey. He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1943. In 1947 Father returned to Aurora, IL as a founding member of Marmion Abbey. From 1947 to 1953 he taught history and Latin at Marmion Military Academy and was also Student Chaplain. From 1972 until his retirement in 1991, Father was pastor of parishes in South Dakota, then returned to Marmion Abbey assuming the position of Director of Oblates and serving parishes in the Fox Valley area. Besides his monastic family of Marmion Abbey, Father Terence is survived by a number of cousins, nephews and nieces. Father’s body will be received by the monastic community of Marmion Abbey on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000 at 4:30 p.m. in the Abbey Church of St. Augustine of Canterbury, 850 Butterfield Road, Aurora, IL, 60504. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., with the Office of the Dead prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday morning, Oct. 30, 2000 from 8 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 3:15 p.m. which will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Vincent P. Bataille, O.S.B., Abbot of Marmion Abbey. Burial will take place immediately after the Mass in the Abbey Cemetery.
