A man and woman come home in a cab from the airport. They leave the cab and go into their Highland Park home. Their sleeping 3-year-old child is now on his way back to O’Hare. “Hey, honey, where’s the kid?” “I don’t know, dear. Don’t you have him?” Oops!
Unbelievable, huh? What’s even more unbelievable is that the cab driver is found to be guilty of not checking the back seat. The cab driver? What about the parents? It was their child they left behind.
To make matters worse, the cab driver’s name is published in the newspapers and broadcast on the airwaves. The parents? They’re not named. I wonder why.
If this incident had occurred in Englewood, the parents would have been hauled in to DCFS and charged with negligence. At the very least, the Highland Park parents should receive an “administrative notice” for gross stupidity.
