John S. Gilbreath, 98, of Traverse City, MI, formerly of Chicago and Detroit, died Sunday. Born Sept. 2, 1902 in New York City, NY., he was the son of William Sydnor and Wilhelmenia, nee Schaff Gilbreath. In 1937, John married Louise A. Johnson in Crown Point, IN., who preceded him in death in 1984. He worked as an Accountant for Price Waterhouse and Ford Motor Company for many years before retiring in 1965. John lived an inquisitive life. He was an avid reader and loved music. Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Lauran) Gilbreath of Northport and John S. “Jack” (Karen) Gilbreath Jr. of Ann Arbor, and a daughter, Susan (Lee) Lane of Oostburg, WI., formerly of Evanston, IL. John also was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Sydnor Gilbreath Jr. Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled. Memorials may be directed Interlochen Arts Academy or the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
