Two veteran administrators have received promotions from newly appointed Village Manager Bohdan “Bo” Proczko.
Longtime Finance Director David Cook is now assistant village manager and Dan Schoenberg, village engineer for two decades, is the new director of public services. The changes fill the duties previously carried out by Proczko.
Cook and Schoenberg will maintain their prior responsibilities, which for Cook included being the director of human resources. Proczko said the moves should be “seamless” in their impact on residents.
“They’ve both been involved in the organization for quite a few years,” said Proczko. “They know how it works. They do their jobs well.”
The promotions, which were made last week, come with raises of about 4 percent apiece. Cook now receives $97,500 annually and Schoenberg receives $86,500. The overall cost of the changes to the village will actually decline, when factoring in the departure of Chuck Dobbins. He had been village manager for 11 years before he left for the private sector a month ago.
Cook, 43, resides in Lake Villa and has been finance director for 10 years. His move fills the slot vacated by Proczko when the Village Board appointed him to replace Dobbins.
Cook’s new title will also include director of administration, which incorporates his finance duties. Assistant Finance Director Doug Cooper will take on added duties as a result of Cook’s new post. As assistant village manager, Cook will interact more with the public on issues.
Schoenberg, 50, has been the village engineer since November 1980, when he arrived after working in engineering roles for three communities over a nine-year span in New Jersey.
A Hinsdale resident, Schoenberg said the new role will cover familiar ground: interacting with the public as well as village departments and utilities as Hinsdale works on road, building and other engineering and public services issues.
