Charles Harry Arends, born in Chicago, IL, Sept. 30, 1918, a graduate of Northwestern University and the Kellog School of Management. He was a retired officer from the First Chicago Leasing Corp., a subsidiary of Bank One. He served in the Navy, Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was an Elder in his church, a charter member of the Western Springs V.F.W. and the American Legion in Chicago. He served on the planning committee of the Village of Western Springs. He tutored students in Accounting at Northwestern Univ. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, nee Brza; his daughter, Marianne (Donald) Wood; a grandson, Donald James Woods; two brothers, Glen and Leonard Arends. Visitation 3 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at Merker & James Funeral Home, 518 Hillgrove Ave., Western Springs. Funeral service 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Grace Lutheran Church, 4101 S. Wolf Rd., Western Springs. In state at 9:30 a.m. Interment Bronswood Cemetery. 708-246-1500.
