Lockport officials are seeking a replacement for Ald. Kenneth Geuther, a 20-year veteran of the City Council who died Sept. 28.
Mayor Frank Mitchell said last week he has the names of five people for the position but said he will talk to other people interested in the post.
Mitchell declined to name any of the five people, but he said two have worked on various municipal committees in Lockport, while the other three have no prior government experience.
A replacement for Geuther, which must be approved by the City Council, is expected by early December.
The replacement would serve on the council through the end of Geuther’s term, which runs through 2003. Half of the eight-member council will be up for re-election at that time. The other half face re-election in April.
Ald. Tom Finnen has been named chairman of the city’s Public Works Committee.
