The University of Chicago Hospitals will save less than $1 million a year by firing 140 nurses’ aides. To suggest that the remaining staff can continue to provide excellent care through “greater efficiency” is lunacy.
Similar savings could probably be achieved by eliminating two or three of the top administrators’ positions, and it is likely this action would have no negative effect on patient care.
