DuPage County has conducted a traffic study at Plainfield Road and Fieldstone Drive/Garfield Avenue and concluded the intersection meets the requirements for installation of a traffic signal.
The Fieldstone Homeowners Association requested the signal because it said the intersection is dangerous and leaving the subdivision at peak traffic times is difficult.
The county is willing to pay 50 percent of the cost of a traffic signal because Plainfield is a county road and suggested Burr Ridge and Willowbrook pay the other 50 percent.
Burr Ridge approved paying 25 percent of the total cost of about $100,000 and instructed Village Administrator Steven Stricker to meet with Willowbrook officials.
Stricker said if an agreement is reached quickly between Burr Ridge and Willowbrook, the light could be installed in about a year.
