Jason Grunkemeyer broke out of his shooting slump by scoring 20 points as Miami of Ohio solved No. 17 Temple’s matchup zone and beat the visiting Owls 66-58 Thursday night.
Grunkemeyer, who had missed his previous eight three-point attempts heading into the game, went 5-for-7 from behind the arc as the RedHawks (2-3) rallied from a nine-point deficit in the first half.
Lyn Greer scored 17 points for Temple (4-2), which played the middle game between two matchups with No. 1 Duke.
“They just outhustled us,” Owls center Kevin Lyde said. “They got to every loose ball, every rebound.”
Kansas 80, Illinois St. 61: Drew Gooden scored 17 points as the No. 2 Jayhawks (7-0) shrugged off a lackluster first half by hitting seven of their first eight shots after halftime and surging past the visiting Redbirds (1-1).
Shawn Jeppson scored 14 points for Illinois State.
Tennessee 85, N.C.-Asheville 59: Reserve Ron Slay scored 16 points as the No. 7 Volunteers (5-0) completed their season-opening homestand by overcoming a slow start in a win over the Bulldogs (3-2).
Connecticut 72, Houston 60: Johnnie Selvie scored 21 points and Caron Butler had 15 points, six steals and nine rebounds to lead the No. 16 Huskies (5-1) over the visiting Cougars (2-4).
Dupay suspended: Florida guard Teddy Dupay has been suspended for an undetermined time for violating unspecified team rules.
“I’m not going into what actually happened,” Florida coach Billy Donovan told the Orlando Sentinel. “But he’s not going to play Saturday” against DePaul.
UIC center out: Illinois-Chicago senior center Thor Solverson is expected to miss at least six weeks because of a knee injury sustained in Wednesday night’s 84-64 victory over Northern Illinois.
The 6-foot-11-inch Solverson averaged 6.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in four games.
Harrick Jr. cleared: The Rhode Island attorney general’s office has decided not to file criminal charges against former Rhode Island assistant coach Jim Harrick Jr., who also worked at Loyola and Valparaiso, for alleged expense-account fraud, saying URI gave “tacit approval” to such practices.

Va. Tech 57, Virginia 56: Amy Wetzel scored 17 points, including an 8-foot runner with four seconds remaining, to lead the host Hokies (4-1) over the No. 20 Cavaliers (4-3).
Bradley 57, Illinois-Chicago 44: Sara Bailey scored 27 points to lead the host Braves (2-2) past the Flames (1-4).
Michigan St. 76, Detroit 63: Becky Cummings had 25 points and 12 rebounds as the host Spartans (3-2) defeated the Titans (2-2).
