Joseph W. Brown, 83, a resident of Deerfield for more than 50 years, died Dec. 17th at home after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cynthia H.; three daughters, Chris (Peter) Gorrod of England, Debra of Highwood and Lynn (David) Vismara of Wheaton, MD; two sons, Joseph, III (Valerie) and Michael, both of Deerfield; five grandchildren, Alex, Joey, Julie, Anna and Daniel; and a brother Harold. Mr. Brown was born in New Jersey, March 23, 1917. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and saw combat duty as a navigator over Germany. He was shot down in combat and spent 17 months as a POW in Barth, Germany. Besides owning his own business, Mr. Brown was a material handling sales engineer before retiring in 1989. He served as a Deerfield Village Trustee from 1955-1959, as Deerfield Park Board Commissioner from 1990 to present and was an active member of Rotary. He and his wife were one of the founding families of St. Gregory Episcopal Church, where he was involved with the vestry, ushers and Building and Grounds committee. He will be remembered for his love of family, photography and his passion for golf. A memorial service will be held at St. Gregory Episcopal Church, Deerfield and Wilmot Rds., Deerfield on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000 at 11 a.m. Interment St. Gregory Episcopal Church Cemetery.
