I strongly agree with Rick Morrissey (Tribune, Dec. 23) when he suggests that Toledo is deserving of a bowl bid. But let’s take this a step further. As Morrissey points out, Toledo did beat Penn State.
Furthermore, Penn State beat Purdue, which beat Wisconsin, which beat Oregon, which beat Washington, which beat Miami, which beat Florida State. Applying the transitive property of mathematical football, we conclude that Toledo is better than Florida State.
Also, the 10-1 Rockets, like the Seminoles, have only one blemish on their record. Therefore, Toledo deserves much more than a token bowl bid. The Rockets should be playing Oklahoma for the national championship.
