Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

One recent Sunday evening I brought my two sons, ages 4 and 6, to Michigan Avenue to see the Tribune Christmas tree.

We touched a piece of the Antarctic, looked at the moon rock, marveled at the number of lights on the tree and admired the American flag atop the Tower. The flag was bathed in a spotlight and flapped gloriously in the strong December wind. When it was time to leave, I told them to take a last look. My 4-year-old looked up and said, in as innocent and matter-of-fact a voice as a child commands, “Oh, Momma. That makes me feel so proud!”

Funny how a 4-year-old can get it right, huh?
