Patrick G. Breen, 83, of Mt. Prospect, one of the founders of the Mt. Prospect Midget Football League, died Sunday, Dec. 31, in Manor Care Health Services in Arlington Heights. Mr. Breen served four years in the Navy stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago during World War II. Mr. Breen did maintenance work for the Navy. After the war, Mr. Breen resumed his job with Illinois Bell Telephone Co. He started as a lineman and worked his way up to the personnel department. With his knowledge of the military, Mr. Breen was in charge of providing veterans’ benefits. He retired in the mid-1980s after 42 years of service. A resident of Mt. Prospect since 1953, Mr. Breen was instrumental in organizing a Midget football league there. He also served as commander of the American Legion Bell Post 242 in Chicago and was the American Legion Illinois state commander in 1982. Other survivors include a daughter, Patricia Brown; four sons, Timothy, Michael, Dennis and Thomas; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Raymond Catholic Church, 301 S. I-Oka Ave., Mt. Prospect.
