Leon Smith’s problems appear to be greater than being released from the St. Louis Swarm of the International Basketball League.
Smith didn’t appear at a scheduled court hearing Dec. 22 to answer charges that he violated terms of his parole, according to his attorney, Dennis Berkson.
Smith left St. Louis for Chicago on the morning of the 22nd and was picked up by a friend but never appeared in court. Berkson said he hasn’t talked to Smith since before the 22nd and doesn’t know where the former King basketball player is.
Smith was supposed to return to St. Louis that same day. He never returned to St. Louis and was released Dec. 27. Officials of the St. Louis team said that the team’s coach, Bernie Bickerstaff, still hasn’t spoken directly with Smith, but with associates of the former No.1 draft pick of the Dallas Mavericks.
Under terms of his parole for misdemeanor charges filed in December of 1999, Smith is required, and has failed, to meet regularly with a psychologist, according to Berkson.
