The USA was once described as a great melting pot, where all nationalities can seamlessly blend into one. But that cultural assimilation leaves many feeling rootless, creating conflicts at the intersection of old world traditions and the American Dream. Photographer Gina Grillo illustrates these tensions through images of immigrants’ offspring. Twenty-five of her black and white stills are displayed in “Between Cultures: Children of Immigrants in America,” opening Saturday at The Field Museum. Also at the Field, there are only a couple days left for The Force to be with you as “Star Wars: The Power of Myth” closes its doors on Sunday. Check out original artwork, props and costumes before they’re whisked off to a galaxy far, far away.
