Students in the Community High School District 128 Wind Ensemble are raising funds to help offset costs for a trip to perform in the Bands of America music festival in Indianapolis.

The 53-member student band consists of students from high schools in Libertyville and Vernon Hills.

The ensemble won the Illinois Superstate Band Competition and is among 16 bands across the United States invited to perform at the music festival.

The band is seeking to raise $5,000 for transportation, accommodations, food and program expenses for the event, from April 5 to 7.

Ensemble members and their parents are contributing about $20,000.

Band members are seeking donations of $250 from Libertyville and Vernon Hills community organizations and businesses to help meet their expenses.

Donations may be made payable to Libertyville High School and mailed to Bands of America Fundraising Committee, in care of Jan Bees, 611 Stevenson Drive, Libertyville.

The committee hopes to raise the funds by Friday. For more information, call 847-327-7186.
