Anton “Tony” Gasparovich, age 90, of Downers Grove, formerly of Chicago, passed away Jan. 8, 2001, at Westmont Convalescent Center. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Ann, nee Nakicen. Anton was born in Skrljevo, Yugoslavia and came to the United States at the age of 10. He lived in Chicago’s Chinatown Community and began working for the Chicago Transit Authority when he was 15. Anton served 48 years as an electrician there and retired in 1973, when he and his wife moved to Downers Grove, IL, to be near their daughter. He was fortunate to enjoy 27 years of retirement, which he filled simply by enjoying his home and family, developing his hobby of creating metal sculptures and especially loving his beloved wife and grandchildren. Anton is survived by his devoted daughter, Antoinette (Daniel) Harrington; two cherished grandchildren Daniel and Kelli, of whom he was very proud; his dear sister-in-law, Lydia (late Frank) Bertucci; his niece Rozanne (Robert) Zibricky; his nephews Frank (Betty) Bertucci and Charles (Gloria) Pavesich; his Godchild Nadine (Lee) Mungai; and grandnephews Gregory (Dawn), David and Brian (Sue) Zibricky. “When through one man, a little more love and goodness, a little more light and truth come into the world, then that man’s life has had meaning.” Anton’s life of 90 years, had great meaning and he will be incredibly missed. Funeral Thursday, 9:15 a.m. from Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien, to Divine Savior Church. Mass 10 a.m. Interment Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
