I understand the mayor’s position that if someone shoveled out a parking space, he or she should have use of that space, but not for the rest of the winter! In cases of significant snowfall, space-reserving should be allowed, but only for three to seven days, depending on the severity of the storm. The mayor should announce up front when the space-reserving period will expire, and after that time, items left on the street should be tossed, and anyone caught trying to reserve a space should be fined. By condoning the current illegal system, the mayor encourages the every-man-for-himself attitude that is in direct conflict with the community cooperation he was asking for.
