The Plan Commission has asked for additional design changes for a proposed Burger King restaurant in the East State Street Retail Center. The commission and city staff have worked with Burger King representatives to design a building in keeping with Geneva’s guidelines and the historical character of the city.

The franchise owner has agreed to construct a building similar to its restaurant in Streamwood, combining masonry and muted colors in a traditional design and to provide enhanced landscaping on the site. The owner also will eliminate lighting on the red roof band, which is a feature of most Burger King restaurants.

The commission approved a motion to move forward with the project if staff and the owner can resolve the concerns about the use of non-traditional exterior building materials, roof and eave design and additional ornamentation to provide texture and increased interest to the building.
