Chicago’s Ignite Sports Media, a Web developer, online marketer and syndicator for major-league teams and sports sites, has secured $17 million in equity financing.

The new round of financing, Ignite’s third, brings the total raised for the 2-year-old company to $22 million. Chief Executive Hank Adams said the money will be used to expand Ignite’s interactive-TV initiatives.

Investors include AIG Global Sports and Entertainment Fund, whose partners include the Interpublic Group and General Motors, as well as Williams Communications and Comdisco Ventures.

Previous investors who also participated in the third round include Kettle Partners, William Blair New World Ventures and Austin Ventures.

Joining Ignite’s board is Paul Pizzani, partner at eVentures and adviser to the AIG Global Sports fund, and Dave Tolmie, former CEO and president of Yesmail.com.
