Some 40 residents and city officials gathered at City Hall recently to share ideas on issues facing Geneva at a community planning workshop.
John Houseal of Trkla, Pettigrew, Allen & Payne, city planning consultants, solicited comments regarding concerns and desires for the city. His firm is helping city staff and the steering committee create a comprehensive plan to guide the city’s growth and development the next 20 years.
The city last adopted a comprehensive development plan in 1989. The new plan will establish an overall vision for the city and make specific recommendations for strategies to achieve its goals.
Among the issues raised were keeping downtown Geneva viable and successful, preservation of green space, the need for affordable housing and for a sense of community, protection of neighborhood character, East State Street redevelopment and more opportunity to enjoy arts.
Additional public workshops will be held . Results of the recent meeting will be available in mid-February from city planning director Dick Untch at 232-0871 or on the city’s Web site at www.geneva.il.us.gov.
