A grant from the Elgin Parks and Recreation Board has helped a team of 11- and 12-year-old girls win in their division at a national soccer competition.
Members of the Monkey Biz soccer team brought their trophies to Tuesday’s park and recreation meeting and thanked board members for the grant.
The team of five went to Orlando last month to participate in a national three-on-three soccer tournament. They won six games to lead the 12-and-under girls division. About 650 teams participated in various tournament divisions.
Monica Meyers, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, said the grants cover 50 percent of traveling, lodging and registration expenses up to $4,500.
