I was astonished by the headline “Ashcroft bats 0 on decency.”
Even his staunchest opponents have conceded that John Ashcroft is a decent man.
Then I realized that the author was that far-left curmudgeon, Studs Terkel. His approach was predictably simple-minded: One just stands morality on its head. Thus, Terkel redefines “civility” as the endorsement of conduct such as abortion, which has long been viewed as wrong in our Judeo-Christian culture. Any contrary view is, of course, “uncivil.”
