Thomas Lyman Finnegan of San Deigo, CA, formerly of Whitefish Bay, WI and Sterling, IL, died Jan. 26, 2001. He was born July 18, 1915 in Chicago, IL to James J. Finnegan and May Lyman Finnegan. He married Anne Toth of Chicago, IL on May 12, 1942. He attended Loyola Academy and earned a degree in civil engineering at Purdue University. After serving as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Corps of Engineers during WW II in the Phillipine Islands and Japan theaters, he pursued a career in construction. He retired from FiatAllis North American after years of extensive foreign travel as an applications engineer. He was an avid sailor and holds a lifetime membership in the South Shore Yacht Club of Milwaukee, WI. Survivors include his wife, Ann Toth Finnegan; son, Dr. Thomas L. (Dianne) Finnegan of Manitowoc, WI; daughters, Dr. Alison Finnegan (Dr. Richard F. Dennis) of Chicago, IL and Juliet A. Finnegan (Alan R. Engbring) of San Diego; grandsons, Patrick and Sean Finnegan; granddaughters, Maura, Kerry and Micaela Finnegan and Kelly Engbring; brother, William D. Finnegan of Glenview, IL; and sisters, Margaret F. Stevens of Glenview, IL and Mary Merkel of Arlington Heights, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dr. Kevin T. Finnegan (Dr. Julieta Gabiola); and brother, James J. Finnegan. Private services are planned at Fort Rosecrans Military Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
