If the Earth were flat, Studs Terkel surely would fall off the left edge.
His Jan. 26 letter, “Ashcroft bats 0 on decency,” accused cabinet nominee and former Sen. John Ashcroft of incivility and lack of decency.
It was a vicious attack on someone simply because his views differ from Terkel’s.
I, too, disagree with some of the views held by Ashcroft.
But I firmly believe that his record and his vows make it clear that as attorney general he will vigorously uphold and defend the law.
Why is it that far-left liberals so vigorously defend the U.S. Constitution–but only when it suits their purposes?
I firmly support Mr. Terkel’s 1st Amendment right of free speech.
But I am puzzled by his failure ever to exercise it regarding the incivility and indecency of our 42nd president. Ashcroft’s critics appear to be bent on turning his name into a verb as they did when they “borked” Judge Robert Bork.
