Midwestern-based Hollywood hopefuls are learning that in the new age of digital filmmaking you don’t have to “go West” to make movies anymore. Accessible and affordable resources are now at any aspiring filmmaker’s fingertips, but the communities to support that work have sometimes been lacking. Nowadays, however, Chicago boasts world-class film festivals (both mainstream and underground), and groups like Cinema One (formerly Chicago Community Cinema) aspire to bring even more cinematic efforts to the masses. Cinema One’s first event under its new moniker is an evening of short films and coming attractions by local and international artists. The inaugural program of trailers and shorts, the first in what’s planned as an ongoing monthly series, begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Excalibur, 632 N. Dearborn St. Doors open at 7 p.m. for cocktails. Tickets: $7. Call 312-985-5010 or visit www.filmdeli.com.
