Fashion designers have long had a thing for uniforms-and what woman hasn’t?
This spring, however, military and survival chic has been made more feminine-still inspired by the standard uniform look (those surplus stores, by the way, are good places to forage around in) but taking it to sexier ranks.
Look for brass buttons on plunging blouses, epaulets on softer shirts, safari gear in the form of hip-hugging ammo belts. Khaki beige and green and camouflage fabric have been transformed into fitted pants and pretty dresses for day and evening.
Among the freshest twists: Comme des Garcons’ use of camouflage as embellishment and Louis Vuitton’s camouflage treatment in the motif of roses.
Then there’s that twisted dress by Christian Dior? Survival for the fittest?
