The Lake Forest Academy Board of Trustees has announced it appointed John Strudwick as head of school.

Strudwick, an economics teacher and director of Phillips’ International Academic Partnership, in Andover, Mass., will become head of school for Lake Forest Academy on July 1.

“It’s an honor to be given this opportunity to lead Lake Forest Academy,” Strudwick said. “I have high expectations for myself and high expectations for the academy. I am eager to begin the challenge.”

He will remain at Phillips Academy for the rest of the school year.

Strudwick said he was attracted to the private Lake Forest school because of its overall strength and its small-school environment.

“I was very impressed by the faculty,” he said. “They asked very good questions, which indicates a deep passion for their school.

“I was delighted by the number of students who said they loved their teachers and saw them for extra help before and after classes. This shows the commitment of faculty to teaching, and the commitment of students to learning.” Strudwick said.

Lake Forest Academy, established in 1857, is a college-preparatory boarding and day school for students in Grades 9 through 12.

Strudwick, 46, a father of three, will live with his family on campus in Wood House, the traditional home of the academy’s head of school.
