A 22-year-old Chicago man was killed after he was pulled inside an ink mixer at an Elk Grove Village plant, police said Saturday.

Mario Viveras was checking on a batch of ink Friday at Modern Printing Colors when he was snagged by the mixer, a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Police said they had not determined how Viveras, of the 2700 block of South Spaulding Avenue, was pulled in. Sgt. Mark Waclawski said Viveras was killed by the large machine’s mixing mechanism.

Waclawski said officials from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration were investigating the accident scene. An OSHA representative could not be reached Saturday.

A message left at Modern Printing Colors, 1425 Tonne Rd., was not returned Saturday.
