The Shedd Aquarium’s aquatic residents jump through hoops with such graceful ease, it’s easy to forget that they have to be taught to perform such Flipper-y feats. Now, for a limited time, you have a rare opportunity to witness the process firsthand in “Totally Training,” a special program that’s part of the Shedd Oceanarium’s 10th anniversary. Running through April, the commemorative celebration features never-before-offered events like a behind-the-scenes tour of the Oceanarium’s inner workings, and chances to help trainers develop new whale and dolphin routines. Every month features unique learning opportunities; February’s treats include an Animal-Care Basics Tour and “You’re The Trainer,” a weekends-only children’s craft activity. And from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, you can even have “Breakfast with the Dolphins,” where you cab start your day with the mammals, meet the Aquarium’s trainers and learn about Pacific white-sided dolphins while enjoying a delicious morning meal. Admission is $11-$15; “Breakfast” tickets are $25-$28. John G. Shedd Aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive. Call 312-939-2438 or visit www.sheddaquarium.org.
