Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I woke up to the Feb. 14 front page of the Tribune and the horrible dual news of another Israeli-targeted assassination and the killing of seven Israelis with a commandeered bus. It was depressing to see the cycle of violence go up another notch.

How welcome, then, was your editorial in that same section. Israel always complains that the Palestinian Authority violated the Oslo accords by returning to violence. We very rarely hear in such clear terms about how Israel has violated the Oslo accords from Day 1 by expanding the settlements, demolishing Palestinian homes and militarizing the settlements. You are right on target: Israel must close the settlements and withdraw from the occupied territories if there is to be peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
