When I read the letter from Kevin Martin (“Senseless sinking,” Voice of the people, Feb. 14), about the sinking of the Japanese fishing boat by a U.S. submarine, I knew right away that Kevin had missed the boat.
The USS Greeneville was not there to attack anyone.
It was there performing maneuvers vital to its efficiency to protect the United States from countless terrorists and nut-case leaders.
The only reason we are not the victims of daily car bombings is because these terrorists know we are fully capable of defending our country.
I strongly feel that the sinking of the Ehime Maru was a terrible accident.
But I do not feel that the defense of our country should be attacked because of it.
Our military presence helps ensure that we have the freedom that all of us cherish.
